The quest does not explain so specifically what is required, but progress is achieved by <b>finishing</b> enemies with a barbarian skill. Finishing with a basic attack will not give you a kill towards quest progress. I am unsure if using skills from other swordsman classes will at all impede your progress but this is what i've learned. I hope this will help anyone looking for clarification.
