Lancer - Disruption Cavalry.

This build is a work in progress and open to suggestions. What I'm trying to do here is to come out with an optimal build for the Lancer class, which has been regarded as underwhelming, to say the least, since R8 came out in kToS.
By no means Lancer is the most powerful class at the moment, but it's far from useless as some people say, and in my opinion, it's quite fun to play.
The build of course is centered around the use of 2H Spears, since you need to have one equipped to use Lancer's skills. They can't be used with 1H Spear.
I recommend grouping up with Dragoon 2, Inquisitors and Linkers. Paired with these classes, your damage gets out of control.
Swordsman
- [Pain Barrier Lv10]: Mandatory. This will prevent enemies from stopping your skills while casting (especially Rush).
- [Restrain Lv5]: 30% chance to stun with your attacks is too good to miss. Particularly deadly if paired with Rush.
- [Concentration Lv10]: With the recent buffs it received I find it to be a better option than Gung Ho because it has no draw backs.
- [Bash Lv3]: Level this to 3 for the attribute. A 3 charge knockdown on an 8 second cooldown? Yes, please!
- [Thrust Lv1]: The skill is almost worthless in PvE, but it comes in handy with its bleeding attribute when fighting mages to stop their castings.
- [Pommel Beat Lv1]: The leftover point. I like putting it here just to have an extra damaging skill during the early levels.
Hoplite
- [Finestra Lv10]: Mandatory. +100 Critical Rate (+120 with Zega Spear) and +3 AoE Attack Ratio with the attribute is especially useful once you reach R8.
- [Spear Lunge Lv1]: Mandatory. Your Lancer skills will LOVE this one.
- [Stabbing Lv10]: Not so useful in PvP, but a great boss killing and grinding tool.
- [Pierce Lv9]: Nothing better to put those points on. Synchro Thrust can't be used with 2H Spear and using Long Stride dismounts you.
Cataphract
- [Rush Lv5]: Mandatory. This skill is why you go Cata 3. It's great for PvP, grinding, boss killing, playing helicopter, mowing the lawn...
- [Trot Lv15]: Mobility is underrated. This is especially useful for Swordsman in PvP to cut distances quicker. It also helps exploring and quest clearing.
- [Impaler Lv1]: Garbage in PvE. Insane in PvP. Relocate enemies away from their teammates or take them out of their magic circles, totems, traps, etc.
- [Earth Wave Lv15]: Great for grinding early on and a nice AoE knockdown for PvP. It falls off in damage with the appearance of elite monsters, though.
- [Doom Spike Lv9]: Same as Earth Wave but with a longer charging time and cooldown, a smaller area and pierce damage instead of strike.
Lancer
- [Quintain Lv5]: Mandatory. This skill's damage is insane when used after Crush and Spear Lunge. Your bread and butter.
- [Crush Lv1]: You obviously need it to boost Quintain's damage. The debuff from the attribute is really nice, too.
- [Joust Lv5]: The utility in PvP is godlike, and its damage is quite nice too, especially against bosses since they eat all the hits with their large hurtboxes.
- [Unhorsing Lv1]: If you land this skill on a Schwarzer Reiter or another Cataphract/Lancer, the duel is over. Great to use after Bash.
- [Initiate Lv3]: The extra Block Penetration is nice, but you get this skill because of its hidden effect which enables you to ignore enemy magic circles!
NOTE: For some reason, this site lists Lancer's buff skill as "Deployment". It's real name is Initiate.

NOTE: 3 stars means it deserves at least Lv50 and should be your priority. 2 stars mean you should only level these after you get 3 stars to Lv50. 1 star means they're completely optional.
The stat distribution is something I don't want to get too much into detail, given it's a controversial topic among people. You're free to follow this or come up with something of your own.
WIth the high base damages of Rank 8, hitting criticals is really important for DPS purposes. This build is not good with evasion, so most of our Critical Rate should be prioritized through equipment and gems, so that way we don't spend all our points into DEX to achieve high critical rate %s. Luckily, we get +120 Critical Rate for free from Finestra Lv12 (when used with Zega Spear).
For personal preferences, I recommend the following:
- STR: 60 invested points (not total)
- CON: 30 invested points
- DEX: Rest (270~ish, depending on how much extra points you got from quests).
(Start with a 2/1/3 distribution as you level up and once you reach 60 in STR and 30 in CON, switch to DEX only).
NOTE: Despite Rank 8's massive base damages, a healthy amount of STR is still important in this build because it provides us with Block Penetration, which gets further boosted +40% by [Two-handed Spear Mastery: Block Penetration] , especially useful against full CON users.

I found on my google trek that swordsman c2 is not optimal for lancer.
Could you provide an explanation why i should choose this over highlander or peltasta? I was wondering the benefits of going highlander over c2 sworsman with this build.

Later on in higher ranks Physical and Magic Defense becomes very important because monsters have ridiculous damage multipliers, so you need every bit of defense to cut off their numbers before all the multipliers are applied. Gung Ho becomes increasingly risky as you advance and gain access to higher level maps because of this, especially in Rank 8 content.
If you REALLY want Gung Ho, though, I'd recommend taking 3 points from Pain Barrier and putting them there. 3 are enough to get access to the attribute, and with the recent patch in Korea it won't hurt much this build doing that movement because Pain Barrier will be getting a duration increase attribute, so taking 3 points from it to have Gung Ho is doable.
i love your build, looks very cool, i have a barbarian lv 43 (Sw1, High1, Barb3, Doppel 3) and i have gun ho with him so... its bad? (Trust 5, Bash 3, Gun Ho 3, Concentrate 3 and Pain Barrier 1)
From my point of view better get buff skill rather than atk skill that will not be use later in game. thrust became useless after rank due to low damage and slow animations.

The point in Thrust is not for damage, it is for the bleeding effect from the attribute, which cuts spell castings from Wizards if they don't have Surespell.
The 3 points in Bash are to get the knockdown attirbute, which is absurdly strong in PvP. 3 charges of knockdown on an 8 second cooldown is really good.
So, with a dragoon, linker or inquisitor... i'll be op? :vvvvvvvv
