This is a slightly different path to some other guides out there, we take Retiarius instead of Shinobi, with some testing I felt like having Trident Finish was more damage over time and having the extra utility from the two Rete skills for large packs of monsters was very helpful.

Shinobi instead is still a fine choice if you find you like the theme or combo mechanics it provides, if so, I suggest checking out one of the other guides out there for better info on it.

Rating of Class 1-10 (my opinion):
Single Target: 7
Area of Effect: 7.5
Durability: 8.5
Solo: 7.5
Team: 7.5

Pros:
- Very tanky
- High block chance
- Starts off effective with low investment
- Low cooldown skills

Cons:
- Not very exciting at low levels
- Doesn't scale as well as some other swordsman builds

Other:
Pretty much just a jack-of-all-trades but master-of-none type of build.


Stat Distribution:

100+ Con (See Below)
, This stat will greatly increase your survivability since it increases your Health, Health Regeneration, Health restored from Potions, and Block Rate.
Remaining into STR.


You will need to invest in high Con for content like Velcoffer, Demon Lord World Bosses, or Soloing CM (Around 90,000k Hp with Guardian Buff will make you feel pretty invincible, which is around 300 Con, counting items).

However if you don't plan on doing such content you won't need as much Con (Around 70,000 Hp, which is around 190 Con, counting items).

Dex doesn't really offer anything to the build other than the critical attack and block penetration the stat itself gives, which you can solve any block problems from gear alone.


Skill Distribution:

You will notice that some circles don't have 15 points invested, that's because you can save points from the same class and invest them in the next circle.

Equipment / Core Items / Cards:

Investing in a good Shield and enhancing it is still important to your overall survivability, but your spear takes priority for investment of course.
Leather armor if you don't mind sacrificing defenses for some bonus crit, or can get your hands on some Solmiki leather.
Otherwise Plate for more Pdef.

Red Card: Glass Mole Lv10 x3 (+30% Physical Attack for 6 seconds after consuming an Sp Potion)
Blue Card: Nuaele Lv10 x3 (+30% Magic Defense)
Green Card: Ellaganos Lv10 x3 (+30 Dex)
Purple Card: Gazing Golem Lv5-10 x3 (15-30% chance to gain Pain Barrier when hit) Still useful even on a swordsman.

for some reason i can not select Hoplit rank, and in the wizzard the third rank of Wizard, why? is it not because I play on the easy difficulty level? I don’t remember, but I sort of chose an easy one, would you recommend playing hard at once, or can it be easy level? Valkoria

@HAWLERYinh I suppose, I tried nakmuay in quite a few builds and it never really felt that great except in a couple of them, and they were not in a dragoon build.

@Jacaré Could work, I just prefer a shield since it makes you so extremely tanky, and retiarius dishes some really good damage. Shinobi could work too. I tried 2h dragoon, and it can def work, I just think 1h/shield is better myself :)

Im trying this guide with some twitch i found in other one similar. I wanted to know the combo or rotation that you think is better for MOBS/Boss rotations. I feel sometimes i end just using AA on the downtimes of skill too much. Thank you!...oh and what GEMS you recommend besides Red in weapons

Thanks for the detail guide! Just switch over from Doppel as i felt that being a doppel is too squishy although the damage is lovely. Anyway, what are the masteries that i should get? I'm new to the game and dunno which Mastery to get... although u have some icons of the masteries beside the skills, i don't really get it >.<

What do you mean about masteries? are you talking about attributes that you learn from your class masters? If so, I'll get them updated tomorrow so you have that at least.

I've got attributes updated now. As for the Enhancement attributes I don't bother writing down those because they are important for every damaging skill, it just all comes down to how much silver you are willing to invest in them. Just try to prioritize Dragon Soar, Trident Finish, Dethrone and Dragon Fall a little more than others since they are your best attack skills.

hey, what do you think about the build sw1-pelt2-hop2-barb1-goon3? is using pike good enough? pelt2 for guardian n swash only.

I'm assuming you want to go Barb for Cleaves +50% damage bonus for Dragon Soar?

You could replace Doppel with it, I'm sure in the end they are both fairly close in damage either way.
+13% Damage on everything from deeds of valor (also you gain Cyclone) or 50% damage on just Dragon Soar.

@Valkoria yea, cleave slash dmg bonus plus the crit buff what brought me this build, what worries me tho should i use pike or 1h spear shield? i go pelt not for tankyness but just for defense cuz i wear leather armor and dps focused playstyle.

i believe between dov buff and crit cleave buff both do fairly similar good for damage at the end,

1H Spear + Shield will make you godlike tanky (remember you gain high block from Finestra and High Guard too), and 1h Spear allows you to use Trident Finish. The difference between 1h and 2h may be significant at first but once you get a good shield and slap some decent red gems in it, the difference isn't as big.

Nothing really changes, you could give up pelt2 for hop3, which would be a little more damage, but you would be giving up +100 mdef/def and 20% damage reduction, which is insanely good.

Anyways, sorry I can't help you too much in that regard, maybe there's another guide out there that have better answers for you, you can try out the official forums and ask there too, some people are very helpful there.

Up-time and the 20% damage reduction attribute, guardian is ridiculously good and Hop3 doesn't really offer that much (which I wish they'd change), its really just more scaling and +10 hits on stabbing, then +50 crit rate on Finestra which is really meh for an entire circle.

Stabbing is still a great skill even without the attribute (just better with it, 2/3rds better), always has been a good skill, especially now that they made it attack so fast.

@Valkoria But doesn’t the hoplite3 attribute One-handed Spear Mastery make up for it? It increases damage by 20% against medium sized enemies. And also five more levels of Finestra adds 50 crit rate and 75 block. I have to agree tho that guardian is awesome but I feel like without pelt3’s butterfly and Umbo Thrust pelt2 seems lacking. Just my opinion. What are your thoughts?

I completely disagree, one-handed spear mastery only effects medium monsters which is the least you need to worry about dealing extra damage too since its the least common enemy and not a boss. 50 Crit & 75 Block is nearly nothing at higher levels with good gear too.

Guardian isn't just awesome, its flat out broken overpowered. It allows you to face tank Velcoffer and world bosses that hit extremely hard, with just fair gear instead of crazy enhanced and transcended gear. THEN there's the extra damage reduction for 10 seconds when using Swashbuckling too!

+100% def/mdef and 20% damage reduction with pretty much 100% up-time is so busted it actually completely blows my mind. I don't even know what the devs were thinking when they redesigned Peltasta.

Of course, you can go what you want, and play how you want, I'm not telling you what you should or shouldn't go, I'm just explaining what is best for you in most scenarios and I see is best numerically. If anything I'd suggest giving up Doppel over Peltasta 2 if you are really adamant about going Hop3.

Can you just give some insight on what skills you're mainly using to DPS or a combo guide? First time playing a spear/shield combo, been playing mostly ranged classes and just came back so it's hard for me to find any good guide.

Also if possible any suggestions on gems and cards? And certain stats that you favor on gear? Thanks.

Did you try doing level 330 dungeon with this build ? Most enemies in there blocks most of your attacks without any DEX invested in.

Just get a little bit of dex on your armor/weapons, I don't have any issues myself but I do have some dex on my items (around +80 total from like two or three pieces of gear), you shouldn't need much at all.

I have to ask... What happened to the old Hoplite/Lancer build? :( Is it completely dead or unviable now?

Lancer is still a fine class for pve (even better with R10 and with the aoe changes), I just no longer could maintain the guide since I ended up switching the swordsman to another build a while back.

Maybe someone else has made a new one in its place to fill the void, I know the class is still really fun, and I'm pretty sure that Cataphract is getting some buffs in the future too which would make the build even better.
